This is my first progress image. I'm really enjoying watching the image fall apart. My thought process involves making a beast out of an icon of beauty. I want my final result to be chaotic and destructive. I'd appreciate feedback on how to further distance this image from the original icon. Any ideas on background creation? I'm aiming for a Dave McKean type of look.
Edit: I included a second version of the base image
I like the concept of "making a beast out of beauty", my original idea was going to be something like that (I was imagining an iconic photo of the model Twiggy but her iconic eyelash makeup would be something gross like spider legs or something). I definitely read chaos from the composition you have so far, but what is the significance of the images you used to put over Marilyn Monroe? It might also help to bring some of the color out of her silhouette because the original image does have that big, splayed skirt - could become much more monstrous and chaotic if you emphasize that shape with color accents.
ReplyDeleteI really like the overall image you created! the complexity of the layers of images make it difficult for me to comprehend what is going on in the image, which I think really adds to the concept that you mentioned. I agree with MJ (^^) that it would be really beneficial to include the outline of the skirt just because that is so iconic to Marilyn and would reference the original picture better.
ReplyDeleteI'll definitely take into consideration your recommendation for color accents. That could make it visually interesting. The textures and images themselves are not as relevant as the feeling of chaos they give off I think.
ReplyDeleteI really like your usage of color as Marilyn's skin. I think maybe adding some other color around her and in the background will give the composition a bit more of a pop. Ed's example of "red paint" would be beneficial.
ReplyDeleteI really like your concept and I'm excited to see how much further you can push this concept (I've already seen your other iterations).
ReplyDeleteI really like how you kept the pee stains even through the destruction. It helps the viewer remember the icon as the destruction surrounds the rest of their mind, a sort of thread keeping from falling too far from the icon itself.
